Crew 27 Celebrates First Award Recipients

Crew Member Mark Case recently became the first member of Crew 27 to earn a Venturing Award, including the Venturing Bronze, Gold, Silver, Ranger, Quest, and Trust medals. Mark is also an Eagle Scout.	Evan Iverson became the first Eagle Scout of Crew 27, when he passed his Eagle Board of Review on February 12, 2012. Evan will receive the Centennial Edition of the Eagle Scout badge.
RickJohn Dodge passed his Eagle Scout board of review on March 13, 2012, becoming the second Eagle Scout from Crew 27.

Fox Island's Venture Crew 27 is looking for Gig Harbor area High School aged boys and girls (ages 14 - 21) who are looking for rugged high adventure or challenging sporting activities, in a follow-on program after Boy Scouts or Girl Scouts, that is more age-appropriate for older teens.

Venturing is a year-round program for young men and women who are 13 (and have completed the eighth grade) through 20 years of age to provide positive experiences through exciting and meaningful youth-run activities that help them pursue their special interests, grow by teaching others, and develop leadership skills.

Venturing is a coed program is designed for young adults who are looking for rugged high adventure or challenging sporting activities and still want to be a part of a Scouting program that offers the advancement opportunities and values of the Boy Scouts of America.

What is Venturing?

• Members are boys and girls aged 14 - 21 called Venturers
• Venturing units are crews
• Venturing adults are advisors
• Youth leader is president
• Crews can select one of five interest areas

What Does Venturing Offer?
• New advancement opportunities for boys interested in going beyond Eagle
• Recognition for those boys and girls who may have dropped out of
  “traditional” Boy and Girl Scouting
• Activities with boys and girls their age
• New leadership training specifically designed for them
• An advancement program that requires that they share what they have learned

What do Venturers Want?
• Consistent adults that “walk their talk”
• Character and ethical education outside the classroom
• Positive role models, male and female
• Opportunities to become proficient at a variety of skills
• Leadership opportunities
